Week Nine - Concept development
Finished app
When it came to designing the app I wanted to make it really bright and colourful so for the majority of the screens in the app I used a colour as the background rather than white. I only used a white background where there are galleries of photos as I didn’t want the bright colour to take away from the colours within the photos. For the login screen I kept it very simple with the science museum and photography archives logo, the email and password boxes, and the login button. I’m glad that I decided to keep the photography archives logo black and simple because it meant I could go really bright and colourful with the rest of the app design and it goes really well with the science museum logo as this one is also simple and black.
Then moving onto the home screen which is the collection page. This page contains the whole photography archives collection and at the top of this page is a search bar to search keywords to discover specific items in the collection. Then we have the profile page; on this page you can upload your profile photo and view who you’re following and your followers. Then underneath you can post your own photos and tag the camera or roll of film you have used, this will then be added to the gallery for this specific artefact. You can also view all the photos you have liked on this page. Finally, onto the individual artefact page, this is what the user will see when they click on a artefact from the homepage or from searching the collection. On this page is the photo of the artefact they are looking at as well as the name, year and a description including country, measurements and materials. Underneath this will be the gallery which is going to be powered by the website Lomography. This gallery shows every photo uploaded that has been taken by this specific camera. So the photos I included in the gallery are actually pulled from the Lomography website when you type in ‘Olympus Trip 35 camera.’
Finished billboard
Alongside the app I decided to create a billboard design that would be used to advertise the app. I wanted this to be bright, colourful and quite playful as I think this reflects the app. I included a mockup of someone holding a phone with the homepage of the app open showing off the artefacts in the collection. I made the photography archives logo nice and big so people knew what the app was called and it would appeal to photography enthusiasts. I also included the science museum logo as I think it’s important to know it’s a digital archive of their collection. I wanted people to know this app was creating a global community so I included the huge number of artefacts and photographs on display to grab people’s attention.
