Partnerships

Foy my app I would am going to have a ‘connect page’ where I would like to display users listening activity through Spotify. l also want the opportunity to link a Discogs account so users can share their physical music collections.

Spotify: I would like to have a partnership with Spotify as I have some features that will work a lot better with Spotify. It is the largest streaming platform so that’s why I have decided to go with this one, I will expand to other streaming services as the app grows and becomes more successful. I will use Spotify for the playback features on the reviews and also to share friend’s listening activities. Spotify have a lot of design guidelines when you are in a partnership with them, I will include some of the most important ones below:

https://developer.spotify.com/documentation/design#linking-to-spotify

Spotify offers a software development kit (SDK). This isn’t an easy process so you may want to hire someone who can help. To use Spotify on your app you must register your app with Spotify. To do this you must go to Spotify’s dashboard and log into your account. Find the ‘Create an App’ button, enter your name and application description. Then you must examine the following fields:

  • Client ID - your app’s unique identifier, which is required for the SDK integration.

  • Client Secret - your app’s secret key, which is used on the server.

  • Redirect URL - a link returning to your application in case of login readdressing to the native app or Safari. For example: projectname://spotify/callback

  • Bundle ID - your app’s bundle ID.

Discogs: I would also like to have a partnership with Discogs as I want to have a feature where users can show their physical music collections with friends/followers. Discogs is an online database and marketplace of music releases which allows users to catalogue their music collections and sell anything they no longer want. I really want to include this feature on a connect page. See below a screenshot from my Discogs account:

As you can see Discogs gives you a list of all the vinyls in your collection as well as a list for all the items in your wantlist. It allows you to scan the barcodes on your vinyl and catalogue everything you have in your collection. This is a feature I would love to have on my app so users can share their collections with other music enthusiasts. So to do this I would join a partnership with Discogs so users can go to the connect page and log into their account and it would then be displayed on that page.

I think this would really help elevated my app and make it a lot more than just a reviewing app.
